Day One - Three Things Heard

So the first day of the year has come- and is almost gone... You would imagine that it would be easy to come up with three things that I am thankful for that I have heard- wow, how to choose? I have a literal wall of sound at any given point in time in my life- 12 people - a dog - 4 birds - glug glug fish, crying baby... it all makes noise, it all makes sound...

I started off early this morning walking the dog. While I was outside I was greeted with a noise for which I'll be very grateful- the sound of rain- not just any sound of rain, but the crispness of it hitting the leaves that have fallen from the tree in front of the house. This sound reminds me of many things - many times of my life - this one very pleasant...

The next notable thing I heard was the sound of my daughters reading together - I am so thankful for these quiet times...

The third thing for which I am thankful is something that I didn't even hear... it was quietness- a kind of quietness that you don't get every day...

A good friend of the family, Tom, invited us for a mule cart ride today-

You might think that this would be a noisy venture, but it wasn't- just the sound of hoofs hitting the earth- the banter of children on this tour of country Florida roads... A reminder of simpler times - a reminder of just how loud life is normally... I'm thankful for that short time of quietness... thanks Tom!

Thank You, Lord for revealing yourself through these noises (or lack of noises) throughout the day...

Ah, I too enjoy those special, quiet noises. The ones that usually go unnoticed.

Yes, in our connected world sometimes nuance is all but lost..
