Gadget Review: Barnes and Noble Nook 3G+Wifi

I should have written this review months ago but oh well...  Up for reviewing is the Barnes and Noble Nook 3G+Wifi.  We have a lot of debating and speculating about which is better- Nook or Amazon Kindle.  Which one do you think?  Well-better decide at the end of this review.  :)

We bought the Nook a few months ago at Barnes and Noble when it was fairly new. Yes, we paid extra for the 3G because Daddy (the father of geeks that he is) wanted to possibly use the 3G radio for other projects in the future. I was very pleased with it from the moment we got it.  The screen was crisp, the battery life great, and the free book selection awesome!  I would spend hours reading Ishmael and Self-Raised on it- not to mention just searching for new books to read!

You can read all about the Nook here.  But for now I just wanted to tell you about our experience with it.

I really enjoyed the flexibility of being able to read any ebook from any place (Barnes and Noble store, Google Books, Amazon, etc.) and having no trouble downloading.  The Kindle, on the other hand, you must find the book in that Amazon store or manually transfer it to your Kindle using the computer.  I never ran out of space (2Gig space- holds up to 1,500 books) but even if I did- there's a slot for me to put an external miniSD card. It's nice using the 3G in the car or anywhere else you can't get Wifi but you can only use it for getting ebooks.  It doesn't work for checking emails and surfing the web.  The color screen at the bottom is nice when you are using the internet- but it gets annoying and distracting when you've been trying to read for a while- thankfully it shuts off after a certain amount of time leaving you to read in peace.  :)

Another downside to the Nook is the weight.  Our Nook (with 3G) weighs 12.6 oz.  Just 4 oz shy of a whole pound.  But it doesn't feel that heavy.  It feels about the weight of a hard back book.  The weight didn't even occur to me until a friend noticed that it was that heavy.  The Kindle, I'll admit, has the advantage here.
A nice thing that came with the Nook is that it charges with a usb cable that plugs into a wall adapter.  Which in turn means that you can charge it with your computer also- and then use the wall adapter to plug your cellphone into with it's usb cable!  (We are innovative here :))

If you are looking to buy an eReader but don't know which to buy consider this:

In my humble opinion, I like Nook better!

I'll have to get one of my sisters to do a review on their Kindles...

Have a good day!
